Joining and Submitting Art

Anyone can submit art to this group.

Even if you are NOT a member, you can still submit art.

This is a 3D MODELERS group. That means that all art submitted to this group needs to have been modeled by you from start to finish. No stock/purchased 3D Models are accepted here.

Let me repeat -
MODELED BY YOU!
NO STOCK!

NO ARCHITECTURAL SCENES, COMPOSED MOSTLY OF STOCK MODELS!

NO STOCK CHARACTER MODELS, POSED AND TEXTURED BY YOU

Stock backgrounds can be allowed as long as they are not in any way the focus of the image.

Stock Models, and Generated Models are not permitted, even if you significantly tweaked, changed, or textured the model yourself.

Contributors are Mods

Members can submit art too, but must have 3D Art in their gallery to be accepted.

If you do not have 3D art in your gallery then just watch the group.

If you join as a contributor make sure you are aware of the responsibilities that come with that job. You will be responsible for voting on what art gets accepted into the gallery.

If you just want to submit art, but don't want to vote on what gets in, just apply as a member.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Why was my submission denied?

A: This obviously varies from one deviation to the next. The approval process is a democracy. You have to get at least 3, 4, or 5 yes votes, depending on if you're a member or not, and what category you submitted to.

Many times submissions are denied just because they've been submitted to the wrong category, in which case, we usually tell you so you can submit it to the correct category (We cannot change it for you while it's still in the submission process.)

If it's not about the category, then it is quite likely that the submission does not quite meet a our quality standards. If the model is very simple, then the render quality, textures and lighting are the deciding factor. Clay-Renders are only accepted if the model itself is of an exceptional quality level.

Look at the content in the category you submitted to and ask yourself - does my piece have the same general level of quality and professional polish as these? If the answer is no, that is probably your answer as to why you were denied.

-

Q. Why was my submission rejected when you accepted an earlier version of it?

A. If you have already submitted multiple WIPs of a model, we will draw the line at 2-3 deviations, at which point, we won't accept any more. We try to avoid having multiple iterations of the same model. One WIP, a clay-render, or a sheet with multiple views and a texture unwrap, and a beauty shot, at the most. And that is really pushing it. We prefer to avoid any more than two deviations of the same model/scene.

-

Q. Why was my member request turned down?

A. You probably don't have any 3D art in your gallery. You can still watch the group. Apply for membership again when you have 3D art in your gallery.
Alternately, you may have applied as a Contributor on accident. You probably should just apply as a Member - Contributors are Mods.

^Cymae has posted a Blog about Copyrighted Content - ripped game models, and credit to stock models that I think every active 3D artist on DA should read.

The DA Staff also seems to have (Finally) taken action against a number of repeat offenders on the 'posting ripped models' front, and I have to say, I'm relieved and thrilled that this problem is finally being addressed.  If we continually turn a blind eye, it will only continue and grow worse.  Many people seem to forget that there is a very real difference between using a model freely distributed, or purchased with license, and using a model that was ripped from a video game.  The notion that buying a game and knowing how to extract its models gives you the right to do whatever you want with those models (including pretending that you made them) has gone un-protested too long, and I, personally, am glad that this problem is finally being addressed.

From the FAQ:

Q. Why was my submission rejected?

A. The submission does not quite meet a our quality standards. If the model is very simple, then the render quality, textures and lighting are the deciding factor. Clay-Renders, and models with very simple/limited textures are only accepted if the model/geometry/sculpt itself is of an exceptional quality level.

Look at the content in the category you submitted to and ask yourself - does my piece have the same general level of quality and professional polish as these? If the answer is no, that is probably your answer as to why you were denied.

The model isn't simple. I think it does have the same general level of quality and professional polish as the others. You've accepted the earlier WIPs that were worse and I've improved some since then.

So you would argue that you're deviation - [link] - is on the same level of quality as the other submissions in the Character's category? The same level as [link] , [link] , and [link] ?

That's the point here.

And to be quite frank, the WIP versions of this that you submitted are still the lowest end of the WIP folder. The texture and render quality is just not up there for a finished piece.

Now, if you submitted this specific piece into the WIP category instead, if it were the only time you'd submitted it, then I'd let it into WIP, but as it is, you already had three other WIP versions of this model, already submitted to the group. They've been pruned to only a single one though - we try to avoid having multiple iterations of the same model, until one of the submissions is a WIP and the other is a finished and polished piece that's textured, posed and rigged and all that.

I take it that my models weren't up to high standards?
